This qualification meets the requirements for Paediatric First Aid outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage.

It is supported by Skills for Health (the sector skills council for the health sector), the Care Council for Wales (the sector skills council for the care sector in Wales) and Northern Ireland Social Care Council (the sector skills council for the care sector in Northern Ireland).

Learning and Assessment--

Guided Learning Hours (GLH) are the hours that a student needs to be engaged in learning. This includes time spent in independent study, but does not include assessment.

The total qualification time for this qualification is 16 hours.

Minimum contact hours (MCH) are those times when the learner is in the same room as the tutor and receiving training, or undertaking examinations or assessment.

In this course MCH is 12 hours class-based work with ongoing assessment over 2 days, and 4 hours of pre work.

This was agreed with First Aid Awarding Organisation Forum (FAAOF).

 

Assessment

Assessment for this course includes:

Practical demonstration. Ongoing assessments demonstrating practical first aid skills.

Oral and Written Assessment. Ongoing questioning that allows candidates to demonstrate knowledge and understanding.

Accident Report Form, to be correctly completed.

Demonstration. How to place pads and follow instructions on an (AED) Automatic External Defibrillator.

 

Course Requirements--

ID Requirements

To be assessed, you must be able to provide sufficient ID. Examples include:

  • Valid passport
  • Signed UK photocard driving licence
  • Valid warrant card issued by HM Forces or Police
  • Other photographic ID cards e.g. valid warrant card issued by HM Forces, Police, employee ID card, student ID card, travel card.

Language Requirements

All assessment will be conducted in the medium of English. You must have sufficient language skills before being assessed. You should have language skills equivalent to:

  • A B1 Level qualification
  • An ESOL qualification at (Level 1) on the Ofqual register taken in England, Wales or Northern Ireland
  • A functional skills Level 1 in English.

Certification--

Successful candidates will be issued with Emergency First Aid at Work certificate with a wallet-sized plastic card.

The qualification is valid for 3 years. After that period, you will need to re-sit the course.
